Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:

Our client are seeking a mechanical design engineer with a preferable proven track record in full life cycle product design and development.  The successful candidate will bring with them experience in taking product developments from inception all the way through to full scale production and after sales support.  More important than specific skill sets, we want to hear from candidates who understand the importance in designing commercially viable products that have high quality and reliability and are also fit for purpose.  An appreciation of design for manufacture and ease of production will able be critical for the successful candidate.

Requirements for the post include:-

  • Degree qualified in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
  • Experience of full life cycle mechanical product design
  • Strong grasp of materials selection for a wide range of mechanical products
  • Production of high quality manufacturing drawings containing full tolerance and detailed finishing specifications
  • Understanding of motion control mechanisms and design concepts
  • Experience with 3D and 2D modelling software

Other skills that would be advantageous for this post include:-

  • Solidworks modelling experience
  • Practical manual turning and milling prototyping experience
  • Prototype assembly, evaluation, characterisation and testing
  • Design of very high precision complex mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity of motorised and piezo actuated precision motion control stages and actuators
  • Knowledge of wide variety of component manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Design of vacuum compatibility
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Familiarity with lean engineering design principals
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing systems
  • Appreciation of the photonics market sector and associated motion control products.
In return for these attributes our client offer a key mechanical design role within their motion control engineering team.  You can expect to take a lead in designing a wide range of manual and automated electro-mechanical precision positioning products.  You will work closely with other engineering disciplines in order to design highly integrated products with varying levels of automated operation.
